Director of OurCrowd Brazil Rodrigo Monteiro said, “Attendees at OurCrowd Sync will hear from thought leaders from both Israel and Latin America, which is an increasingly important region in innovation investing.  We’re excited to bring members of the global and local tech ecosystem together to understand the trends and opportunities, and get business done.”

The choice of Brazil as the event host country is closely related to the region's growth in the venture capital market and startup scene. According to the Association for Private Capital Investment in LATAM, VC investments in the region doubled for the second consecutive year to just under US$2 billion in 2018. Mapping the major markets, the Association revealed that Brazil generated 55.9% of the deals in 2018, followed by Mexico, with 20.5%. (Source: Annual Review of Tech Investment in Latin America)

Latin America continues to attract major global tech players pursuing market expansion. In Brazil, more startups than ever reported surpassing US$1 billion valuations, including Movile, iFood, Nubank, Rappi, 99 and, recently, Gympass. In addition, Stone Pagamentos and PagSeguro listed on the Nasdaq and NYSE, respectively. iFood closed the largest known VC round to date (US$500 million) in 2018. The top five investments in 2018 all exceeded US$100 million per round and collectively totaled US$1.2 billion, more than the total invested for all of 2017.
